Food and drink fairs

Almost every region has a yearly festival celebrating a local delicacy or speciality, many of which have been produced for hundreds of years and form part of Majorca’s rich tapestry of traditions.

There are events dedicated to olive oil, mushrooms, wine, honey, snails, potatoes, almonds, carob and more. Many of these raw ingredients are enjoying a revival or are being reinvented in creative culinary ways, such as carob spread or flour.

Examples of regional Majorcan specialities include sausages like sobrassada, llonganissa and butifarrón, sweet pastries such as ensaïmades, bunyols and crespells, and savoury dishes like coca de trempó.

Wine and liqueurs

Vineyards have helped to sculpt Majorca’s landscape, with wineries using local grape varieties to produce award-winning wines certified under the Binissalem or Pla i Llevant Designations of Origin (DO).

Many bodegas offer wine-tasting experiences, from basic options through to a gourmet meal with stargazing. At Hotel Samos, we also offer selected fine Majorcan wines for purchase by the bottle in our restaurant and bars.

Another protected regional alcoholic drink is Hierbas de Mallorca, a herbal liqueur with an aniseed flavour that’s usually served after food and which is available in dry, sweet and mixed varieties. Hierbas is available by the glass at the Hotel Samos bar.

If you fancy eating out, the Magaluf area is packed with establishments offering cuisines from around the world. For example, Urban Food Mallorca is a gastronomic space with a selection of food and drink outlets, and located just a short walk from Hotel Samos.

Throughout the Calvià region, low-key eateries with amazing food sit next to high-end restaurants with prices to match. Even in the small village of Es Capdellà, you can find outstanding traditional dishes in the local bar and a Michelin-starred chef in a gourmet restaurant.

In Palma and across Majorca, acclaimed restaurants from award-winning chefs literally pepper the culinary map from the north to the south coasts. Wherever you are, look out for the menú del día (menu of the day) for amazing food at great prices!
